Key West is very small, and finding parking can get hard. We recommend renting bikes; if unable, a golf cart or scooter. Lots of places will drop off and pick up your bikes from your resort.

This is always a must-do for us on day one of our trips to Key West. Most of the fun and shopping is located on this street. We recommend starting on the east end of the street and working your way to the west side at Mallory Square to watch the sunset. If you're staying at The Reach, we recommend renting a bike or scooter, as you'll have already seen everything along the walk there.

Kino is an iconic shop that handmakes their shoes on site. Roberto "Kino" Lopez learned the old-world tradition of leather sandal making in Cuba. He perfected the trade and brought his skills with him to Key West in 1965. A pair of Kino's was Naomi's first souvenir from her first trip to Key West in 2013.

Feed the tarpon, but beware of the pelicans! This is so fun and a nice break on the way down or up on your drive to Key West. Deivi was once bitten by a pelican, which then proceeded to steal our whole bucket of fish (we only managed to feed one tarpon that day)!

Worth a double take. Proximate to the west and to the south of the church is the Grotto, containing the statues of Our Lady of Lourdes and Bernadette, which was dedicated on May 25, 1922, the Feast of the Ascension and the 25th anniversary of Sister Louis Gabriel's entrance into the religious profession of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. Sister Gabriel had survived three major hurricanes since her arrival in Key West on August 25, 1897. Because of the devastation and heartache she had witnessed as a result of these terrible storms, her deep desire to keep Key West and its residents safe from future storms generated her passion to build the Grotto to seek protection from Our Blessed Mother Mary. Tradition tells us that Sister Gabriel remarked on that dedication day that as long as the Grotto stood, "Key West would never experience the full brunt of a hurricane." And as all residents can attest, there has not been a severe storm on the island since the Grotto's erection in 1922. This Grotto is featured in guided tours of Key West, and television news crews broadcast from in front of it when a hurricane threatens.
